About Ransomware
Ransomware is a type of malware that encrypts or deletes a victim's files so they are unusable or are publicized. Crypto-ransomware sometimes locks the victim's computer. To avoid the carnage, the victim is required to send a certain amount of money (the ransom), typically via a crypto currency like Bitcoin, within a brief period of time. It is not guaranteed that paying the extortion price will restore the lost data or prevent its exposure to the public. Files can be altered or erased across a network based on the victim's write permissions, and you cannot break the military-grade encryption technologies used on the compromised files. A common ransomware attack vector is tainted email, in which the victim is lured into interacting with by means of a social engineering exploit called spear phishing.
